Airwolf is an arcade shoot-em-up for the ZX Spectrum, developed by Dan Hartley and intended for release by Ocean Software. The game was based on the American television series featuring a high-speed, heavily armed helicopter.
The project faced significant licensing hurdles. While Ocean Software held a handshake agreement with the distributor, Elite Software successfully secured the official rights to the brand. Consequently, the game was cancelled and the work was shelved.
The cassette cost £6.9.
In Russia and the former USSR, the game, particularly its sequel, became highly popular. Numerous TR-DOS versions were released by various groups, including Quasar and C-Jeff. POKE codes for the game appeared in magazines such as Revival and ZX Power. Players also encountered cracked cassette releases by Mikropol and several Russian translations, including one titled 'Avia-Volk 2'.
