Legend of the Amazon Women is an arcade beat-'em-up released in 1986 for the ZX Spectrum. The game was published by U.S. Gold Ltd, with game design and concept by Ed Ringler and Simon Ffinch. The inlay and poster art were created by Paul Kidby.
The game is a single-player experience compatible with Kempston and Interface 2 joysticks. Technically, it features a memory-saving system where characters are constructed from shared sets of arms, legs, and weapons, with specific animation offsets for depth. The developer also utilized hidden data storage within the background sky area to manage the tight memory constraints of the 48K machine.
The original cassette version was priced at £7.95. The title was also ported to the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 platforms.
The game received an average magazine score of 76.67%. It earned a 70% rating from Crash, 4 out of 5 from Sinclair User, and an 8 out of 10 score from Your Sinclair.
The game gained popularity in Russia due to numerous POKE codes featured in magazines like Revival and Faultless. It was released in several TR-DOS versions and circulated on cassette tapes with cracks by Condorsoft.
