Masterchess is a chess simulation released for the ZX Spectrum 48K in 1982 by publisher Mikro-Gen. The developers based this version on the Psion game engine, distinguishing it from the Mastertronic title of the same name.
The game belongs to the board strategy genre and supports a single player. It implements classic chess rules optimized for the 48K hardware architecture.
The cassette version retailed for £6.95. In addition to the ZX Spectrum, the game was also available on the Amstrad CPC platform.
The game holds a weighted user score of 6.5 based on 4 votes.
The game remained obscure in Russia. During the 1990s, the Black Cat'99 group adapted it for TR-DOS, and cracked cassette versions also circulated.
