Penetrator was released in 1982 for the ZX Spectrum 48K. The game was published by Melbourne House and developed by Philip Mitchell and Veronika Megler in Australia.
This arcade shoot-'em-up supports up to two players and features Kempston Joystick controls. The game is based on the original Konami coin-op. A notable feature is the included level editor, which the developers created to simplify bitmap calculations and decided to include on the tape as part of the final release.
The cassette version was priced at £6.95. The game was also available on the Commodore 64 platform.
The title holds an average magazine review score of 70%, with a 7/10 rating from Personal Computer Games.
In the Soviet Union, the game was known as 'Vozdushnaya Ataka' due to a translation by ITP Universal. Several TR-DOS versions and cracked cassette releases by OAV were in circulation. The name also became well-known in the local scene as the alias of a prominent coder from the group VFHB.
