Punch & Judy was released in 1989 by Alternative Software Ltd, featuring the work of creators Gary Wood and Dean Hickingbottom. The game was developed for the ZX Spectrum 48K using an in-house 16x6 map editor previously utilized for the title Clockwize.
This arcade adventure game supports a single player. The Punch and Judy characters and screen graphics drew inspiration from a local library book on the history of the puppet show, while the town design incorporates elements from the home town of Bridlington. Dean Hickingbottom handled the porting of the ZX Spectrum version to the MSX platform.
The game was sold on cassette for £2.99. Besides the ZX Spectrum and MSX versions, the title was also released for the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64.
The game holds a weighted user score of 5.12 based on eight votes.
In the 1990s, the game spread across the country on cassettes through a crack by Pavel Nikitin. Later, multiple TR-DOS versions were released by groups such as TAW, Phantom Family, Max Iwamoto, and BrokImSoft.
